Croatia signed a €35.3 million grant agreement on 9 October for the next phase of geothermal-energy development, the government and Economy Ministry said. The European Regional Development Fund will provide €30 million through the 2021–2027 Competitiveness and Cohesion Programme. [1] [2]
The Croatian Hydrocarbon Agency is due to develop four geothermal wells intended to support district-heating systems in Velika Gorica, Zaprešić, Osijek and Vinkovci. The programme follows earlier exploration that the authorities said confirmed usable geothermal potential in those locations. [1] [2]
ContextThe announcement confirms grant financing and the project’s next development phase. It does not mean the wells are already operating or that district-heating conversion has been completed. [2]
