Montenegro's parliament rejected an opposition motion to remove Speaker Andrija Mandić in a secret ballot on 13 October. Thirty-seven MPs voted for dismissal and 41 voted against. [1] [2]

The opposition filed the motion after Mandić offered condolences to the family of Ratko Mladić, who was convicted of genocide at Srebrenica and other war crimes. Opposition parties presented the vote as a test of Montenegro's respect for international judgments and European values. [2]

ContextOpposition support for constitutional amendments linked to EU accession had been made conditional on allowing the dismissal debate and vote. The ballot resolves Mandić's position but not the separate bargaining over those reforms. [2] [1]
