Sofia’s municipal council approved plans on 10 September to borrow up to €367 million for public transport and infrastructure, according to SeeNews, citing council documents. Half of the proposed financing would come from the European Investment Bank, with the remainder from other lenders. [1]

The investment plan earmarks about €176 million for vehicles and €190 million for roads, tram infrastructure and pavements. Planned purchases include buses, battery-equipped trolleybuses, electric buses and low-floor trams. [1]

ContextCouncil approval authorises a financing plan; it does not mean all loans have been signed or vehicles delivered. The envisaged borrowing would have maturities of at least 15 years. [1]
